History of the Program
The Dolly Parton Imagination Library was launched in Dolly’s hometown of Sevier County, Tennessee, in 1995 through the Dollywood Foundation. Today, the program has expanded to over 2,000 local communities worldwide and has given over 150 million books to children from birth to age five.

Early Childhood Literacy
When a young child enters kindergarten ready for school, there is an 82% chance that the child will master basic skills by age 11, compared with a 45% chance for children who are not school ready. Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library has been shown to significantly increase the time parents and caregivers spend reading to their children each week.
Words from Parents and Educators:
I am so excited about this program! It will provide a multitude of benefits to the children of Cullman County. From increasing cognitive development to providing vital background knowledge and vocabulary to increasing the parent/child interaction daily. This is imperative for all families to begin reading to their children from birth through elementary school.
― Tonya Cupp, Cullman County Schools
I can’t wait to have these books delivered to children in Cullman County. Reading to children from birth provides crucial building blocks for language development and emotional connection. This program is not only going to help our children when they are young, but it will also prepare them for success as they enter kindergarten and elementary school.
